Dark Chocolate Gifts Are “Food of the Gods”

Here a fun fact to pass around the office the next time you show up with some dark chocolate gifts for your favorite company celebration: the cocoa tree’s scientific name is Theobroma cacao, meaning “Cocoa, Food of the Gods.”  It was coined by the great Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus.

Here’s another one: cocoa beans, from when comes chocolate, once served as a form of currency in pre-Columbian societies!  (Who says money doesn’t grow on trees!)

Chocolate is such a wonderful treat, the darker the better…so what better way to enjoy them than “chewing” over such fun facts?

Okay, one last one: the word chocolate comes from “xocolatl,” which is ancient Mayan for “bitter water!”
